Disappointment

I met with Disappointment

We stopped and talked a while

A Heavy Circumstance came along

to complete the trinity’s smile.

We jawed on muscle, fat and bone

tore sinew from its gristle

Came to the tough and chewy bits

sharp edged as bitter thistle

Dividing marrow from the bone

was a messy exercise

when done, Disappointment said to me

“arise, arise, arise!

Go forth now! Life a new to see!

Go shine! Go shine! Go shine!

For today you are free.”

I left him standing there

along with Heavy Circumstance

In turning to a different road,

new birds sang … a merrier dance.
