Autumn Years by Jo-Ann Hughes

We rested you and I in our garden of delight

In a landscape of tall trees

A blanket of smouldering pink

Hues of purple, shades of blue

Kissing flames of orange light

We sat a while amongst the whispers

Lovers dreams with heartbeat one

Songs of streams returning time

Running over memory’s course

Caressing cares, embracing years

Staring into colour true

Breathing stillness, solitude

Tones now reveal a deep despair

As darkness entered and death destroyed

Extinguishing devotion raw and rude

Now I rest here, all alone

In a barren blue and hollow green

Lost in endless Autumn chill

Burnt ochre and yellow fade

Mellow tones to winter blown.

Come sweet Son, come reclaim

Cast out Death and winter fear

Come Spring Love, restore, renew

Bring warm smile and gentle truth

Bring light! Breathe warmth and love anew!
